The Newport Fire Department has achieved an improved Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification rating, reflecting enhanced fire protection capabilities. The improved rating could result in lower insurance premiums for homeowners and businesses within the city.

Chief Marion Williams credited the improvement to investments in new equipment, expanded training programs, and improved water supply infrastructure.
